| Resetting your Brother TN3170 / TN 550 Toner Starter Cartridge - You will need to reset the flag gear in order to reset the cartridge. The printer displays a ""toner life end"" message when empty, or if no reset gear is detected after refilling. OEM supplied Brother TN 3170 & TN 550 starter cartridges* do not have a reset flag gear installed A reset gear must be installed in order for the printer to function properly, once the cartridge has been refilled with toner and re installed in the printer.
